Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018: Late field goal carries West Islip to win

   Leading off today: Bobby DiCapua converted on a 21-yard field goal attempt in the closing seconds Friday as No. 16 West Islip pulled out a 17-14 victory over No. 28 Lindenhurst in a clash of state-ranked Section 11 Class AA football teams.

   West Islip rallied from a 14-0 deficit in the fourth quarter.

   "I was ready to try a game-winner from 40 or 50 yards and the offense kept moving down the field and getting closer and closer," DiCapua said. "I couldn't wait to get out there and win it."

   West Islip quarterback Mike LaDonna carried 30 times for 109 yards, scoring on carries of 1 and 3 yards to set up the tie-breaking field goal.<

   Queensbury still perfect: Liam O'Mara rushed for 180 yards and a school-record six touchdowns -- including three in the fourth quarter -- as No. 11 Queensbury defeated No. 4 Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 42-21 in a matchup of Section 2 unbeatens.

   "It was a heavyweight fight," Queensbury coach Matt Crossman said. "It went back and forth, toe-to-toe, but we took the momentum at the end."

   Queensbury possessed the ball the entire first quarter with a 19-play drive culminating with an O'Mara score on the first play of the second quarter.

   Burnt Hills closed to within 22-21 entering the fourth quarter on a pair of touchdown passes from Darien LaPietro to Rece Gobel before Queensbury churned out 121 yards in the final period.

   More Section 2: Nacier Hundley scored three second-half touchdowns as No. 4 Holy Trinity rallied from a 14-7 halftime deficit and defeated No. 8 Stillwater 35-21 to close out the Class C regular season.

   Hundley caught six passes for 186 yards and rushed for another 36 yards. He scored a pair of touchdowns on swing passes from Joe Tortello in the first 4:29 of the third quarter.

   Stillwater QB James Galarneau, who scored three TDs, carried 38 times for 217 yards and Luc Lescault ran for 202 yards on 23 carries.

   McQuaid rolls past East: McQuaid outgunned Rochester East 56-30 as tight end Connor Zamiara caught six passes for 133 yards and three scores.

   McQuaid is ranked 13th in Class AA and East 23rd in Class A.

   Andrew Passero scored a TD after an exchange of turnovers, then McQuaid extended its lead to 21-12 after Hunter Walsh connected with Zamiara.

   Walsh finished with 234 yards passing and four touchdowns. Passero finished with three touchdowns and 115 yards rushing.

   West Seneca showdown: West Seneca West, the co-No. 1 team in Class A, earned a 30-16 win over No. 18 West Seneca East as Maurice Robertson scored two touchdowns and threw for 116 yards on 11 of 19 passing.

   It was the 22nd consecutive victory for the defending NYSPHSAA champions, who raced to a 23-0 lead.

   Cornwall clinches: Freshman quarterback Aidan Semo scored two touchdowns as No. 3 Cornwall posted a 24-14 win over No. 21 Minisink Valley to clinch a first-round bye in the Section 9 Class A playoffs.

   Cornwall clinches: No. 14 General Brown scored the game's first 24 points and edged No. 16 Lowville in a Class C game between Section 3 teams.

   Furious finishes: Joe Caporicci converted a fourth-and-goal attempt from the 1-yard line with :03 remaining to earn North Tonawanda a 7-0 win over Tonawanda.

   The Lumberjacks have won 18 straight games against their rival, pushing the all-time series to 68-31-9.

    • Two-time PSAL de- fending champion Curtis jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter before No. 8 South Shore railed for a 17-14 win in a PSAL City Conference game.

   Big performances: Kyle Angus scored five touchdowns on eight touches -- five carries for 68 yards and three receptions for 119 -- as St. Anthony's over- whelmed Cardinal Hayes 56-32. Senior quarterback Greg Campisi was 14-for-22 for 308 yards and four TDs. ... Mike Rigerman rushed for 255 yards and three touchdowns in the first half on offense and made two interceptions on defense in Pioneer's 49-20 win vs. Springville.

   Dylan Kelly caught a 55-yard TD pass, forced a fumble, made an interception, blocked a punt and recorded nine tackles for Williamsville North in a 24-6 win over Niagara Falls. ... Fairport's Dante Coccia ran 23 times for 263 yards and a TD to beat Penfield 41-13. Penfield QB Ryan Novy was 26 of 46 for 359 yards and a TD.
