Football notes: The smallest brand of football played in the state is about to become the largest league in Section 9.
Spackenkill, Ellenville and Onteora have become the latest programs in line to make the switch to eight-man football according to Hudson Valley Sports Report. Millbrook had announced earlier that it is also going to eight-man this fall, so the league is shaping up to have 12 teams.
"As of right now we are planning on a 12-team league for the 2019 season with two six-team divisions divided by region," said Sullivan West AD David Franksevicz, the eight-man rep on the sectional football committee.
Ellenville played in Class B a year ago and the other three competed in Class C.
Spackenkill, a Class B program as recently as 2017, has been without a JV program for the last several years. Millbrook played last season without a modified or JV team.
