Leading off today: The winningest girls high school basketball coach in state history has announced her departure from the sport after half a century on the bench at Section 1 power Irvington.
Gina Maher informed her team on Thursday that she is retiring after 814 wins, 18 sectional championships and six NYSPHSAA titles. Kevin Devaney Jr. broke the news on Friday.
"Fifty years is enough," Maher said. "I am ready. And we are fortunate to have two wonderful people ready to take over the program in B.J. Constantine and Kaitlin Degnan. It's time."
Maher said she will remain in her roles coaching girls tennis and Unified basketball.

• Arthur Xu defeated Edward Chang at first singles, 21-15, 21-18, to help Great Neck South to a 5-2 win over Jericho in Section 8 boys badminton on Wednesday. The outcome ended Jericho's 70-match winning streak.
