Sept. 20, 2025: Farmingdale RB shatters Long Island yardage record, scores seven times

Leading off today: Farmingdale running back Josh Kama's follow-up to last fall's epic performance against Oceanside proved to be even more monstrous on Friday as he set a Long Island record for rushing yards during a 64-57 football victory.

Kama carried 26 times for 495 yards and scored seven touchdowns. The former mark was 489 yards by Nathaniel Griffith of North Babylon in 2022. The state mark is 593 yards by Adam Nunes of Buffalo South Park a season ago.

Last season, Kama ran for 376 yards and seven TDs in a 63-42 triumph against Oceanside.

Farmingdale trailed the rematch 50-49 when Oceanside turned the ball over on downs. One play later, Kama broke free for a 55-yard scored and then tacked on the two-point conversion for a seven-point lead. Ive Mills intercepted a pass on Oceanside's ensuing possession, and Kama again struck big on the next play. He broke two tackles en route to a 53-yard TD with 2:48 to play.

After Oceanside pulled to within 64-57, Kama ran 53 yards on a 3rd-and-8 snap but stepped out of bounds at the 1-yard line to allow the Dalers to kneel out the clock.

"That's what my team needed," he told Newsday.

Young JJCR receiver off to a torrid start

Pleasantville outlasted John Jay Cross River 56-40 in Section 1 football action as David Hundzynski scored five touchdowns in a back-and-forth game.

Playing in just his second varsity game, JJCR sophomore James Tesi made 20 catches for more than 300 yards and finished with four touchdowns. In his debut last week, Tesi caught 14 balls for 177 yards and one touchdown. He also made the reception and lateral on a 53-yard hook-and-ladder play culminating in another score.

Final play drama in Section 5

Leading by two points in the closing seconds, University Prep held off Fairport by blocking a field goal and returning the ball 70 yards for the clinching score in a 35-26 triumph.

Gavin White broke through to make the block, and Ja'yvion Sampson scooped the ball up for a 70-yard return and the touchdown.

White finished the contest 12-for-18 behind center for 215 yards and one touchdown.

Jamestown rallies with three late scores

Jamestown scored three touchdowns in the final two minutes, capped by a 33-yard pick-six with 34 seconds to go, lifting the Red & Green to a 33-26 victory Lancaster in Western New York action.

"It took every second of the clock, and it wasn't looking good for a while," coach Tom Langworthy told The Post-Journal, "but I told our guys after the game that the lesson you can learn from this is you never quit. You never give up. You have to play a full 48 minutes."

Already leading 26-13, Lancaster chewed up almost eight minutes on a drive to the 3-yard line when a high snap resulted in Jamestown freshman Alaric Richards returning the fumble 55 yards to the Legends' 30. Eight plays later, Chase Bonta (34 carries, 158 yards) scored from a yard out. Evan Maloney's extra point made it 26-20 with 1:44 left.

An onside kick failed, but Jamestown forced a Lancaster punt that senior Jericho Thagard returned 79 yards to the 1-yard line. Bonya scored on the next play to tie the contest with :53 remaining, but the extra point failed.

Looking to avoid overtime, Lancaster came out throwing on fourth down only to see Jamestown senior linebacker Luis Diaz (11 tackles) reel in a high throw and return in 33 yards for the score and the program's first win over Lancaster since 2014.
