Oct. 18, 2025: Farrell's win over No. 1 Iona Prep highlights upset-filled night

Leading off today: It was an upsetting kind of night for Friday football in New York, with none more so than Monsignor Farrell toppling Iona Prep, 28-21.

In a matchup of the CHSFL's top two teams, Farrell, ranked fifth in Class AA by the NYSSWA, made a statement against the Gaels, defending state champions and top-ranked since the start of the 2025 season. Iona Prep had won 16 consecutive games.

Sophomore Bryce Moye threw three touchdown passes as the Lions built a 28-7 lead in the fourth quarter. Farrell went ahead for good on Moye's 10-yard pass to Braxton Moye in the back corner of the end zone with 3:56 left in the third quarter. Braxton Moye's 33-yard scamper made it 21-7 with 32 seconds left in the third.

Bayport-Blue Point's Section 11 streak ends

Aidan Winter carried 26 times for 345 yards and four touchdowns as Babylon dominated Bayport-Blue Point, 26-7, in Suffolk County Division IV action.

Babylon is ranked second in Class C by the NYSSWA. BBP, which had won 37 consecutive games against Section 11 opponents, entered the weekend ranked eighth in Class B.

BBP last lost within the section on Nov. 19, 2021 against Shoreham-Wading River.

"This doesn't prove anything," Winter told Newsday. "We've got to keep on improving week to week."

Babylon opened with a 16-play, 72-yard drive that consumed 9:34 only to come away without points after Winter lost a fumble at the goal line. Winter atoned by breaking an 83-yard TD run on the first play of the next drive.

Milestones

Veteran Monsignor Martin Association coach Jerry Smith is going to remember his 200th football victory for a long time after St. Francis wiped out a 23-0 deficit to earn a 59-35 triumph of Bishop Timon-St. Jude.

"Some of our guys were about to crack a little bit but they held together and they didn't crack," Smith said. "And that's the mark of a great team. We finally woke up, played hard and came out with the victory."
