Leading off today: Unbeaten Baldwinsville, ranked sixth in Class AA by the NYSSWA, will be without starting quarterback Niko Manning when it faces Syracuse CBA in the Section 3 Class AA football final tomorrow at the Carrier Dome.
Manning was injured while making a play on defense during Friday's 22-15 semifinal victory over Corcoran, pressing junior Casey Colligan into action, The Post-Standard reported.
Colligan, went 2-for-2 for 33 yards and a touchdown for the Bees in the come-from-behind victory. Going into the game, Colligan had attempted only two passes this season.
“He can run the show,” coach Carl Sanfilippo said. "He’s pretty comfortable, as everybody saw the other night."
Baldwinsville is a run-oriented team, with Manning attempting only 55 throws in nine games. All-state tailback Malik Burks has rushed for more than 2,200 yards this season.
Also out of action this week will be Lancaster senior defensive back Kevin Schwach, who has made eight interceptions. He broke an arm against Lockport on Friday and underwent surgery that will keep him off the field when the Redskins meet North Tonawanda for the Section 6 Class AA championship.
