Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009: Prize football prospect Easley picks Penn State
Leading off today: Staten Island Curtis senior Dominique Easley, the state's most coveted football recruit, has given Penn State a verbal commitment.

"I always liked Penn State,” Easley told The Advance, over the weekend after a visit to State College, Pa. "I didn’t think I was going to commit, but being out there and talking to everybody made me feel like this was the place."

Easley had offers from at least 18 programs. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound defensive lineman also visited Florida, Georgia and Rutgers. Easley said the Penn State staff would like to move him around the defensive line to take advantage of his agility and pass-rushing skills.

Streaking: When Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake beat Colonie 25-13, 25-16, 25-20 yesterday, it marked 103 consecutive boys volleyball victories against Suburban Council opponents since 2003. Junior setter Jordan Armstrong had 27 assists in the match.

However, it's not even the longest active volleyball streak at the school. The girls team has a 273-match winning streak in league play that's older than any of the varsity players.

In girls tennis yesterday, Pittsford Sutherland blanked Fairport 7-0 for its 100th straight victory, including 11 this season. There have been 44 players involved in the streak.

but Pittsford's 12-year winning streak in girls swimming came to an end over the weekend with a 94-92 loss to Syracuse CBA, which has won 65 of its last 66 meets.

Extra points: Senior Lauren Kahn registed a hat trick to reach 102 career goals as Nanuet downed Albertus Magnus 4-1 in girls soccer. . . . Hamburg junior lacrosse player Eric Chadderdon says he will play for Ohio State after graduating in June 2011. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound defenseman was recruited by more than 30 schools, including most of the major names in the sport.
