April 21, 2025: Panama's Brink adds basketball player of the year award to list of honors

Leading off today: Panama senior Carter Brink has added a player of the year award in basketball to his first-team football honors in the 2024-25 school year.

Brink garnered the New York State Sportswriters Association's top honor in Class D on Monday as the organization released its boys basketball all-state teams in Classes B, C, and D. He helped Panama to a NYSPHSAA championship last month in Binghamton.

In the fall, Brink was a first-team all-state receiver for Clymer/Sherman/Panama, which also captured a New York Public High School Athletic Association championship.

Also earning player of the year recognition:     • Class B: Mariano Mateo De Los Santos of Gregorio Luperon High in the PSAL.

    • Class C co-players: Jeffrey Mulhern of Duanesburg and Carson Swanson of Westfield.

  • Complete Class B, C, and D all-state teams

The New York State Sportswriters Association will release its all-state teams in Classes AAA, AA, and A on April 28.

    Passings

Art Serotte, who coached Buffalo's Grover Cleveland High to 12 Harvard Cup football championships between 1964 and 1992, including a 28-game winning streak in the 1970s, died April 14.

Serotte, who also coached 10 Section 6 championship teams and five Yale Cup titlists on the basketball court, was 85.

He was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.

    Big performances in girls lacrosse

The game took place on April 5, but the accomplishment is still worth an acknowledgement: Nardin senior captain Victoria Earle scored 15 goals in an 18-14 victory over St. Mary's in a Monsignor Martin Association contest.

According to The Buffalo News, the performance matched Buffalo Seminary senior Lilli Rauch's 15-goal game last season.

        • With eight goals and two assist in Pelham's 20-13 victory over Lakeland/Panas last week, Taylor Green reached 300 career points.
