Leading off today: No. 1 Iona Prep played a dominating second half and defeated Monsignor Farrell 24-9 on Friday in a matchup of the top two teams in the New York State Sportswriters Association Class AA rankings.
Jaydin Jackson threw two touchdown passes, and running back Chase Reeves ran for a score as the defending state CHSAA champions overcame a 9-7 halftime deficit. Boston College commit Mamadee Sangaray broke up three passes and hauled in a game-clinching interception with 1:12 to go.
Iona Prep has won nine in a row since losing to Farrell last October.
Hilton's Lipani ties Section 5 record for wins
Hilton scored touchdowns on its first six possessions to roll past Irondequoit 58-7 and present coach
Rich Lipani with his 229th career victory. That tied Lipani, who began with the Cadets in 1989, with Dave Whitcomb for the most football wins in Section 5 history.
"It means I've been doing this a long time and if I didn't have a lot of wins, I'd be doing a crappy job," Lipani told PickinSpinters.com.
By the way, it was Whitcomb who gave Lipani his first coaching job, hiring him to run the Aquinas junior varsity in 1985.
Hilton, ranked 11th in the state in Class A, has outscored opponents 186-65 during a 4-0 start, and its starting defense has yet to yield a touchdown.

Dontre Hampton carried 11 times for 106 yards and two touchdowns and added a 30-yard pick-six interception during his three-TD second quarter as
No. 24 Buffalo Bennett edged No. 27 Health Sciences 24-18 in another Class AA contest between state-ranked squads.
Hampton's night ended with a hip injury on his first carry of the second half. Junior Donte Parker took over and stretched the lead to 24-0 with a 1-yard run with 10:14 left in the third quarter.

• In its biggest regular-season game in program history,
No. 3 Eagle Academy II downed No. 13 Erasmus Hall 22-7 in another big Class AA contest.
Zy'eare Schulters put the game away with a 60-yard scoring romp in the fourth quarter against Erasmus Hall, which has captured six of the last seven city championships in the PSAL's top division.
• Rockville Centre South Side, ranked 16th in Class A, made a late defensive stand and held off Seaford 14-12 in a crossover contest between Section 8 schools.
Seaford, No. 21 in Class B, took over at the South Side 18-yard line after blocking a punt with just over 2:00 to play. Seaford advanced to a fresh set of downs at the 8, but the defense held firm and forced a 26-yard field-goal attempt that was knocked down by the wind accompanying the nor'easter storm that has disrupted much of the downstate schedule for the remainder of the weekend.
• Terrell Cunningham completed 15 of his 16 pass attempts and rolled up 315 yards and four TDs as defending NYSPHSAA champion Rochester Monroe, tied for No. 1 in Class B, rolled past Honeoye Falls-Lima 58-0.
• Brysen Fry ran for five touchdowns in Chenango Forks' 36-21 win over Maine-Endwell. Forks is top-ranked in Class C, and M-E is No. 3 in Class B.
Fry, who also had a five-TD night vs. Maine-Endwell last season, scored on carries of 65 and 5 yards in the first quarter to stake the Blue Devils to a 14-0 lead.
Onondaga and OnTech back on the field in Section 3
Section 3 has approved a mid-season merger between the Onondaga and OnTech football teams,
Syracuse.com reported.
Onondaga will serve as the host school, with OnTech players joining the Tigers' roster for the rest of their Class D schedule. The team will be eligible to participate in sectionals.
Onondaga canceled its first three games following an automobile accident that hospitalized several players. OnTech lost its first two games in the eight-man division, and an injury-depleted roster led to the team forfeiting in Week 3.
The development means South Lewis, Morrisville-Eaton, Thousand Islands, Clinton and Sherburne-Earlville will each lose a game from their schedules in the eight-man league.
Attorney general sues Indiana governing body
The Indiana attorney general's office is suing the Indiana High School Athletic Association to stop its board of directors from using a race-based quota to fill two of the 19 seats in its board selection process.
Attorney General Todd Rokita's lawsuit contends the IHSAA should be barred by existing state law from reserving any board of directors seats based solely on race.
"IHSAA’s quota tells kids that skin color, rather than merit, is an appropriate way to judge people," Rokita said. "That lesson has no place in Indiana's education system, and, regardless, the law does not permit it. The IHSAA exists to build character. A racial litmus test for choosing leadership on the IHSAA's board does the opposite, and after months of delay, the association left us no choice but to take legal action."
The lawsuit contends the two seats are "closed to white men and white women solely because of race." The attorney general's office argues that constitutes an abuse of authority and is incompatible with the IHSAA's purpose.
