NYSSWA All-State plaques

Sunday, May 13, 2007: More big performances on final day of Loucks Games
Leading off today: Day 3 of the Loucks Games was every bit as good as Day 2 was at White Plains, with several more scorching performances.

Suffern's Shelby Greany's fired off a time of 4:54.49 for 1,600 meters, but she had to share the spotlight with two stellar showings in the vertical jumps as teammate Janelle Clayton went 5-8 1/2 during a rare venture into the high jump (her previous PR was only 5-4) and Stephanie Duffy of Washingtonville cleared 12-6 in the pole vault.

Among the boys, Collegiate High went 1-2-4 in the metric mile with Chris Williams (4:12.32), Dwayne Alexis (4:14.46) and Dillon Trotzuk (4:17.31). Additionally, Bryam Hills' Phil Cawkwell won the steeplechase in 9:16.88 and Colonie junior Steve Crouse stretched out his PR in the triple jump to 48-9 1/2.

Garden City wins in OT: Given the depth of downstate lacrosse talent, there's no guarantee that John Jay, Cross

River will get a rematch against Garden City in boys lacrosse next month.

If they do, though, it will be a game worth traveling to see. Dillon Dwyer scored with two minutes left in OT for Garden City (14-2) in its 7-6 win Saturday over visiting JJCR.

JJCR came into the game ranked second in Class B, one notch ahead of Garden City, in the NYSSWA rankings.

Extra points: We're letting our non-scientific survey question on the site home page run an extra week as the vote on moving the basketball three-point line back a foot is extremely close. . . . Delaware Valley (Pa.) upended New York City's James Monroe, 7-5, in baseball on Saturday. Monroe had opened the season with 33 consecutive wins and a No. 6 ranking in USA Today.
