Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007: Girls all-state soccer team announced
Leading off today: The first of the season's all-state teams is now available as soccer editor Perry Novak of NYSSCOGS, our sister organization, has released its 2007 girls soccer team.

The Class A coach of the year honor is being awarded posthumously to John Schroeder of Sayville, who died during the season.

   Players of the year are:

  • Class AA: Jessica Shufelt, Greece Arcadia
  • Class A: Alaina Beyar, Rockville Center Southside
  • Class B: Becky Kaplan, Oyster Bay
  • Class C: Bri Smith, Buffalo Nichols
  • Class D: Nikkia Raso, Lyme
   Coaches of the year are:
  • Class AA: David Prutting, St. Anthony's
  • Class A: John Schroeder, Sayville
  • Class B: Owen Scully, Briarcliff
  • Class C: Joe DiMattina, Florida
  • Class D: Joseph Dumoulin, Chazy
From the world of blogs: Kevin Devaney certainly didn't pull any punches in the aftermath of Peekskill's ballgame on Tuesday, an 85-73 win over Spring Valley. Check out Devaney's blog regarding how Ralph Watts, the junior transfer from Lakeland, was treated.

Not an ideal teammate: A Marcus Whitman student

  • is accused of touching two of his female schoolmates inappropriately last Thursday, Ontario County sheriff's deputies reported.

Thomas Jeffrey Savage, 17, was charged Thursday with two counts of sexual abuse, a misdemeanor, Deputy John Peck told the Democrat and Chronicle. All three teens are members of the same unspecified school sports team at Marcus Whitman that was returning from a competition, he said.

Savage was arraigned in Gorham Town Court and released, and orders of protection were issued on behalf of the girls, Peck told the paper.

Extra points: Keep an eye on the issue of CHSFL divisional fotmat and schedul changes, which Tom Dowd of The Advance explored today. It would be great to find a way to match the CHSFL's against some NYSPHSAA football opponents, but that development would seem to just be an offshoot of possible changes rather than a primary goal. . . . Heather Reynolds set two school records last night by making nine three-pointers and scoring 45 points as Corning West routed Corning East in girls basketball, 70-41. Reynolds also made 10 steals.
