Leading off today: Rudy King has stepped down after one season as coach coach of Bishop Loughlin's boys basketball team,
The Daily News in New York reported.
King was 16-11 after being appointed shortly before the start of practice in the fall after Khalid Green took a scouting job with the New Jersey Nets. He was disappointed that the interim label wasn't removed from his job title and that the school was continuing to interview candidates.
"I thought from us doing well this year that we were going in the right direction," King told the paper. "I thought I earned that right to be here at least another year."
The paper said sources say ex-All Hallow's coach Ed Gonzalez may be named as his replacement.
Troy school adds two: Troy Catholic Central appointed Rich Foglia and Audra DiBacco as boys and girls basketball coach, respectively.
Foglia, who has been a football assistant, strength and conditioning coach and JV basketball coach, replaces Blain Goverski. DiBacco served the past three seasons as the assistant to Chris LaBombard.
Elba pitcher reaches 1K of K's: Elba senior Sarah Schwartzmeyer struck out 19 Alexander batters yesterday during a 12-0 softball victory to reach 1,002 for her six-year varsity career.
Schwartzmeyer is No. 4 on Section 5's career strikeouts list and will likely end her career second to Jordan Ingalls (Bolivar-Richburg, 1,326).
