Leading off today: Is it a league meet when 28 percent of the league can't get there to participate?
The latest blast of nasty winter weather kept eight of 28 member schools from participating in the ECIC Wrestling Championships being hosted by Clarence yesterday. Competitors from Orchard Park, Hamburg, West Seneca East, West Seneca West, East Aurora, Frontier, Springville and Holland were KO'd because their schools canceled after-school activities.
Weigh-ins were scheduled for 2 p.m., and by 11:30 a.m. only two schools had backed out. But six more dropped out by early afternoon, The Buffalo News reported.
Clarence AD Greg Kaszubski said the ECIC Committee considered gong to a Saturday/Sunday schedule or postpone the event for a week, but neither option was workable.
Short stay? Pittsford Mendon burst into the state Class A boys basketball rankings at No. 16 last week by virtue of a 66-52 win over Batavia. The Vikings' stay may prove to be short after a 52-47 loss to Pittsford Sutherland.

More overtime action: Kevin Alesi scored 48 points. And lost.
St. Joseph by the Sea edged Tottenville 99-94 in two overtimes on senior night in Huguenot.
Sea's Mike Nierva scored 36 points, and teammate Mike Scacco made three three-pointers in OT after having scored 23 points for the entire season.
Sea overcame a nine-point deficit over the final 1:59 in the first OT.
Girls basketball: Nicole Bini scored 21 points to lift Aquinas past Buffalo Nichols 65-62 in a non-leaguer between state-ranked teams -- Aquinas fifth in Class B and Nichols sixth in A.
Emily Brophy added 20 points for the Little Irish.
