Leading off today: Brian Rhodes-Devey appears poised to close out his career on a high note. The Guilderland senior highlighted the 67th annual
Eddy Games in Schenectady with a meet-record time of 4:09.92 for the mile yesterday.
He broke the mark of 4:10.6 by Matt Centrowitz of Power Memorial in 1973.
"It was raining and I didn't have anything else to do, so I figured why not come here and run?" a joking Rhodes-Devey told The Times Union. "I'll have to call Mr. Centrowitz and apologize for breaking his record."
The national leader in the mile this season is Centrowitz's son Matt, a Maryland high school senior who clocked 4:08.38 at Penn. Rhodes-Devey, by the way, completed his day by taking Greenwich distance ace Caitlin Lane to her junior prom.
Chaminade loses in OT: Max Seligmann scored 2:54 into overtime to lift Delbarton, N.J., (17-0) ranked No. 4 nationally by LaxPower over No. 13 Chaminade (12-3), 8-7.
