Monday, June 30, 2008: Adams resigns after four sectional crowns at White Plains
Leading off today: Sue Adams has resigned after seven successful seasons as girls basketball coach at White Plains, The Journal News reported today.

Adams, a 1978 White Plains grad, won four Section 1 titles, made it to two state finals and sent five players to Division I college programs. She cited a desire to devote more time to her three children as the reason for her departure.

"The last seven years, everybody in my house sacrificed for me," she told the paper. "They've been really supportive. There's been a lot of time with them I can't get back. I felt like if I was going to go, this was the time to go."

The school hasn't named a replacement. Adams, 47, will run the school's fall league if necessary until a replacement is in place.

Farley out at Utica ND: Longtime Utica Notre Dame girls basketball coach Bill Farley said he has resigned after 14 seasons, and assistant Tom Hynes has stepped down to accept the same position at Clinton High.

Notre Dame officials said AD John DePerno has stepped down as well, but he could not be reached for comment, The Observer-Dispatch reported.

Farley, a 1975 Notre Dame graduate, was 214-98 and led two teams to regional titles.

"I think it was a good time to get out,” Farley told the paper. "I think you want to have the feeling that you have the support to do the job the right way . . . I did what I thought was right for me and my family."

Hynes said that he struggled with his decision, but wanted to work closer to his family.

Lansingburgh loses baseball coach: Dave Bestle has stepped down after 15 seasons in charge of Lansingburgh's baseball team. Bestle works for the Continental Basketball Association's Albany Patroons as the vice president and general manager.

"I've been thinking about this for the last couple of years," he told The Times Union. "I'm not done with coaching at this point, but I'm stepping away from it right now."

Bestle's son, Kyle, was the MVP of the Tamarac modified team this spring. "I want to see him play," Bestle said. "If I am coaching, I can't do it. I had to make the sacrifice for my family. I thought this was the right time."

Bestle racked up two Section 2 Class B championships and a 239-116 career record, including 11-11 this spring.

Ithaca follow-up: Ithaca will introduce Ed Redmond as its new football coach tomorrow. Redmond was the AD at Lansing for 24 years and will become associate principal at Ithaca High School. He inherits a team that has gone 2-34 the last four years and 11-66 since 1999.

"There's no reason to look back. I'm looking for the future," Redmond told The Ithaca Journal. "I sort of know what it's been like down there, but by the same token, I like to take the positive, upbeat approach."

Redmond was the head coach at Lansing from 1991-2004 and again in 2007.
