Saturday, Aug. 16, 2009: Pittsford TE Fitzpatrick changes commitment
Leading off today: Pittsford tight end Sean Fitzpatrick, who committed this winter to play football for Maryland next season, has changed his mind.

Instead, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound prospect says now he will sign a letter of intent with Atlantic Coast Conference rival North Carolina in February.

"I committed to North Carolina tonight," Fitzpatrick told Rivals.com Thursday. "I’ve kind of had it in my mind that UNC is the right place for me for about two weeks or so."

Fitzpatrick reportedly had maintained contact with Tar Heels assistant Allen Mogridge and made an unofficial visit to Chapel Hill last month. He caught 18 passes for 273 yards and three TDs as a junior.

Mexico coach's status uncertain: The Mexico school board rescinded its offer of a teaching job for girls basketball coach Tim Chamberlain, according to The Post-Standard.

Superintendent Nelson Bauersfeld confirmed the job offer to teach high school physical education had been withdrawn but did not elaborate, the paper said. Bauersfeld said he did not know if Chamberlain would be reappointed as a coach.

Mexico finished 19-6 and was ranked No. 16 in Class A by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Chamberlain could not be reached Friday afternoon, the paper said.

Remick wrapping up 34-year run: Dave Remick, who coached multiple sports at Groton before becoming the AD, is retiring effective Aug. 28, The Ithaca Journal reported. The position is being converted to part-time, and Keith Goodwin will take over.

"I just know my 34 years at Groton have been really a great experience," Remick, 56, told the paper. "It's a ter-

rific community. The people here are outstanding, and they really support athletics."

Remich was a star running back at Ithaca College in the early 1970s. At various times, he coached football, wrestling, and modified cross country, track and baseball at Groton.

Football coach Jeff Lewis played for Remick as a senior.

"It was really a football coach's dream to be able to work under Dave Remick," Lewis said. "He did a nice job and he was always there when you needed something."

Remick's wife, Robin, recently retired as Cornell University's director of international programs. The couple may pursue an opportunity in the Peace Corps, the paper reported.
