Leading off today: Goshen quarterback
Andrew Deserto was in the intensive care unit of a Poughkeepsie hospital last night after suffering a seizure during the second quarter of a 34-13 loss to Roosevelt on Friday in Hyde Park.
Goshen AD Bob Siracuse told the Times Herald-Record the senior was doing much better than when he arrived to St. Francis unconscious on Friday night.
""He's certainly doing a lot better and I think the prognosis is good," Siracuse told the paper. "He was unconscious for a few hours last night. It's certainly a remarkable recovery. Andy was in real bad shape (Friday night)."
A source told the paper Deserto had a small amount of blood on his brain but no neurological issues. A return to the field is doubtful.
Siracuse said Deserto has undergone numerous neurological tests following his initial seizure, which came after being tackled after a 23-yard run near the Goshen sideline.
He was taken from the field on a stretcher and transported by ambulance. Several media outlets reported that there was no ambulance on site at the time of the mishap, resulting in a 15-minute delay in transporting him to the hospital.
Roosevelt trainer Pat Moshier said Deserto “was going in and out, having similar difficulties you typically see in a concussion,” The Poughkeepsie Journal reported. Moshier said he and Roosevelt AD Amy McArdle, who declined to comment, will evaluate the handling of the situation.
A figurative blizzard of goals: Sam Blizzard scored five goals and had an assist as South Glens Falls beat Troy 7-1 in girls soccer on Friday. SGF built a 6-1 halftime lead.
