Labor Day weekend was the CHSFL scrimmage weekend, and many schools
paricipated in multi-school/jamboree-type scrimmages to get their work
in and bang around a different color jersey for the first time.
Additionally, many of the CHSFL schools got to scrimmage our public-school counterparts from the Metro area (LI publics, PSAL and Section 1), which is
always exciting for all involved. As St. Anthony's participated in the
New Rochelle scrimmage for the third year, kudos to Coach DiRienzo and
staff for another job well done.
The Kickoff Weekend is always exciting as the anticipation of the season has finally come. The culmination of all the off-season work and mental
preparation begins. The excitement is distributed amongst the players
and coaches different ways. The seniors know that this is their last season
of high sschool Football; for some it's their opportunity to be leaders and help their
teams to successful seasons, for some it's the opportunity to possibly help
themselves be noticed by college coaches, and for others there's the
possibility of this being the last season of playing organized football
and being part of a team concept. So many of them seize the moment in
time differently.
For the juniors and underclassmen moving up to the varsity, it is the opportunity to prove they belong and can be trusted
to uphold the standards their individual programs have established.
Finally, for the coaches, to help, teach, guide, and inspire their teams
and position groups to keep getting better on a daily basis and over the
course of the season. Three months of Excitement!
