Leading off today: The clock has run out on a No. 1 team that was living on borrowed time.
Taylor Isselhard (14 points) knocked down a 3-pointer with 25 seconds left in overtime to give Gananda a three-point lead en route to a 63-61 victory last night over Marion, top-ranked in Class C by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
Six days earlier, the Black Knights (10-1) had to fight off Lyons 54-45 in another overtime contest.
Billy Heumann scored a career-high 18 points for the Blue Panthers (8-5), who recoreded 20 assists on just 22 field goals.
Taking control: Canisius College recruit Jen Morabito scored her team's final 15 points as No. 16 Binghamton remained unbeaten in Class AA girls basketball with a 69-66 triumph over Horseheads.
Morabito opened the fourth quarter by setting up Madison Ward for a basket, then rattled off the rest of the Patriots' points to finish with 34 for the night to drop Horseheads to 11-1 for the season.
"She's a great player, and she works her butt off on offense and defense," Patriots coach Kristin Lemon told The Press & Sun-Bulletin. "It's kind of her reward. She's the girl I want to have the ball at the end of the game. We have other kids who can step up and do what they need to do, but with her experience, she's got ice in her veins."
